Exfoliating Foot Masks/Peels 👣👣👣
I recently treated a client who accidentally burnt his skin with a exfoliating foot mask- ouch!
I also perosnally advice my clients to AVOID these, especially if there is mild callus (hard skin)- I've met too many with burnt or inflammed skin
So it got me thinking, what are companies adding to these things causing some peoole (not everyone)'s foot skin to molt?
Here's what I've found:
A lot of exfoliatory foot masks tend to have high concentrations of Alcohol and Lactic Acid
Alcohol, in HIGH concentrations, can make skin red, very dry, irritated/inflammed and more effects
Lactic acid, again in HIGH concentrations, can cause skin irritation/inflammation, increased chances of hyperpigmentation for darker skin tones or (rarely) hypopigmentation for fairer skin tones
So if youre tempted to use an exfoliatory foot mask, stay tuned for Part 2 where I talk about more gentle solutions!
